Hyderabad: Former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) was questioned by SIT officials on Sunday evening in connection with the phone-tapping case, following notices issued earlier. After KCR appeared before the SIT, BRS leaders strongly criticised the Revanth Reddy government, alleging that a Telangana activist was being humiliated. Responding to these claims, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy questioned how issuing notices to those accused of wrongdoing could be portrayed as targeting Telangana society.
Speaking at the Ravi Narayana Reddy National Award ceremony on Monday, Revanth Reddy rejected the BRS narrative, stating that the party itself was redefining the term “activist.” He asked whether Kodandaram was not a Telangana activist and recalled that several movement leaders were arrested during the previous BRS regime. Revanth alleged that during BRS rule, key positions, lands, and contracts were distributed irregularly, adding that anyone who commits mistakes must face investigation.
The Chief Minister pointed out that several national leaders, including Shibu Soren, Jayalalithaa, and Yediyurappa, had also faced probes in their respective cases. He said notices were issued only for alleged irregularities and cited Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s view that those who adopt illegal paths in a democracy must be prepared to face inquiry. Revanth also highlighted the sacrifices made by leaders like Ravi Narayana Reddy for the Telangana cause.
Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy criticised the BJP-led Centre, accusing it of undermining constitutional rights through measures like SIR. He alleged that the BJP sought 400 seats in elections with the intention of amending the Constitution but failed to secure even a majority. Claiming that the Constitution was under attack, the Chief Minister urged people to create public awareness and stand united to protect democratic values.
