Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has termed the nationwide caste census as the third phase of the social justice movement under Congress leadership. Speaking at the Samvidhan Rakshak Abhiyan event in Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium on Constitution Day, he outlined Congress’s historical contributions to social equity and its ongoing commitment to transformative governance.

Revanth Reddy explained that the first phase of social justice, led by Pandit Nehru and Indira Gandhi, introduced measures like SC/ST reservations and bank nationalization. The second phase, under Rajiv Gandhi, advanced reforms such as lowering the voting age to 18 and implementing the Mandal Commission report. The caste census, he stated, represents the third phase—Social Justice 3.0—under Sonia Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi’s leadership.

The Telangana government, inspired by Rahul Gandhi’s vision, has already initiated a socio-economic and caste survey, with 92% of the work completed. Revanth Reddy asserted that once the survey is finalized, the state will spearhead the next major phase of the social justice movement.

Call for Unity to Safeguard the Constitution

Revanth Reddy called for nationwide participation in protecting the Constitution, framing the struggle as one between its defenders and those seeking to undermine it. Criticizing the Sangh Parivar, he accused it of attempting to alter constitutional principles, contrasting this with the Gandhi family’s efforts to preserve them.

He claimed that the Constitution has been under threat for a decade, prompting Rahul Gandhi to launch a nationwide campaign for its protection. Revanth Reddy credited this initiative with limiting BJP’s electoral gains, citing by-election results in Wayanad and Nanded as evidence of a shifting political landscape.

Highlighting recent electoral outcomes, he pointed out that while a BJP alliance succeeded in Maharashtra, a Congress-led coalition triumphed in Jharkhand, signaling broader public support for Congress’s vision of social and constitutional justice.
