Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday made key remarks on the issue of inter-state river water sharing, stressing that his government prefers solutions over disputes. He said that if given a choice between conflict and water, Telangana would choose water, and if asked to pick between controversy and resolution, the state would opt for resolution. The Chief Minister asserted that the Congress party has no intention of seeking political gains by fuelling water disputes.
Appealing for cooperation beyond politics, Revanth Reddy urged all political parties to work together to resolve water-related issues amicably. He emphasised that the focus of his government is on public welfare and farmers’ interests, not political advantage. He reiterated that Telangana is seeking a permanent and practical solution rather than prolonged disputes.
Addressing Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Revanth Reddy appealed for cooperation on projects on the Krishna River that were approved during the undivided state. He said that obstacles to such approvals were preventing the release of central government funds, thereby placing an additional financial burden on Telangana.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the need for cooperation from neighbouring states to ensure port connectivity and broader development. He clarified that Telangana does not seek conflicts with neighbouring states, whether Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, or Maharashtra, and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to mutual cooperation in accordance with the Water Board Act.
