The Telangana government, under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has announced the allocation of Indiramma houses for economically weaker sections. To streamline the selection process, a new app has been introduced to verify eligibility for the scheme. Only eligible applicants will be able to proceed with the application process, while ineligible ones will have their applications deleted. Officials are set to begin a survey soon, based on the app’s data. Notably, this app has been developed by the central government for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and will now be utilized for the Indiramma housing scheme.

First Phase to See Construction of 4.16 Lakh Houses

In the initial phase, the Telangana government plans to construct 4.16 lakh Indiramma houses across the state, with 3,500 houses allocated per Assembly constituency. This follows the public administration program held last year, during which applications were collected. These applications will now undergo field-level scrutiny to identify eligible beneficiaries. The government has recently released guidelines for the Indiramma Committee, which will be established at both village and urban levels to ensure the identification of genuine beneficiaries.

App Developed by Central Government

The central government has developed the app to facilitate the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), designed to provide permanent housing for the underprivileged. The app incorporates the eligibility criteria for receiving government housing, and the central government has mandated that states must adhere to these guidelines to qualify for PMAY funds. Seeking maximum funding from the center, the Telangana government has committed to strictly following these rules, making the app a key tool in selecting beneficiaries for the Indiramma housing scheme.

Applications submitted through previous public administration initiatives will be fed into the app, which will assess each applicant’s eligibility. Only those deemed eligible will be considered by the state government. Afterward, members of the Indiramma Committee will conduct field visits to verify the eligibility of applicants in person. Once the list of eligible beneficiaries is finalized, the data will be submitted to the central government via the app for further review by central officials.

Urban App Under Development

One key aspect is that the central government’s app is designed exclusively for rural areas. The Telangana government will use it accordingly, while for urban beneficiaries, the state is developing a separate app. This new app will be integrated with the central government’s system, allowing both apps’ data to be visible to the center in real-time. Beneficiary selection will be based on the combined data from both rural and urban apps.
