New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has launched a sharp attack on External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar over a resurfaced video in which the minister stated that India had informed Pakistan that its military action on May 6 and 7 was aimed at terror camps, not military installations. Jaishankar also mentioned that Pakistan chose not to act on the message.
Reacting to this, Rahul Gandhi took to social media platform X, alleging that the government had committed a “serious offence” by sharing such information in advance. “Informing Pakistan before carrying out an attack is a crime. The External Affairs Minister has publicly accepted the government’s mistake,” he claimed. He further questioned how many videos the Indian Air Force had lost during the operation, hinting at a lack of accountability.
In response, the Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement clarifying that Jaishankar’s comments were being misrepresented. The MEA asserted that the minister’s remarks referred to the communication made after the strikes, as part of diplomatic messaging to de-escalate tensions, and not prior to the military action.
Informing Pakistan at the start of our attack was a crime.
EAM has publicly admitted that GOI did it.
1. Who authorised it?
2. How many aircraft did our airforce lose as a result? pic.twitter.com/KmawLLf4yW— Rahul Gandhi (@RahulGandhi) May 17, 2025
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also countered Rahul Gandhi’s claims, accusing the Congress leader of spreading misinformation. He stated that Jaishankar’s comments were about Pakistan’s reaction following India’s counter-terror operations, and that Rahul was deliberately distorting the timeline to mislead the public.
The controversy has sparked fresh political debate over the handling and communication of India’s counter-terror operations and the accountability of political leaders in sensitive matters of national security.
