New Delhi/Islamabad: In a significant escalation along the India-Pakistan border, India launched a retaliatory military campaign codenamed ‘Operation Sindoor’ following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. As part of the operation, the Indian Armed Forces carried out coordinated air strikes targeting terrorist bases located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
According to official sources, the Indian strikes resulted in the elimination of over 100 terrorists, marking one of the most intense counter-terror operations in recent years.
The Pakistan Army, through a statement issued by its media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday, acknowledged the impact of the Indian strikes. It confirmed that 11 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 78 others sustained injuries during the Indian operation.

In addition to military losses, ISPR reported significant civilian casualties. At least 40 civilians, including seven women and fifteen children, were killed, while 121 others, comprising 27 children and 10 women, were injured due to the air strikes and shelling.
ISPR also disclosed that six Army personnel killed in the strikes were identified as Naik Abdul Rehman, Naik Waqar Khalid, Lance Naik Dilawar Khan, Ikramullah, Sepoy Adil Akbar, and Sepoy Nisar.
Pakistan claimed that the Indian forces carried out unprovoked shelling along the Line of Control (LoC), contributing further to civilian casualties.
In response, the Pakistan military launched ‘Operation Banyan-Un-Marsas’ on May 6 and 7, aimed at countering the Indian offensive and protecting strategic locations. The full details and outcomes of this operation are yet to be independently verified.
This latest exchange marks a sharp rise in hostilities between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, raising concerns in the international community over the risk of further escalation.
