Chief Minister Revanth Reddy dismissed speculation over the reorganisation of districts in Telangana, stating that the government has no plans to abolish existing districts or create new ones. Speaking at the launch of the TGO Diary at the Secretariat and later at a public meeting in Bhupalpally, the Chief Minister clarified that only minor boundary adjustments would be considered to improve administrative convenience and public access.
Criticising the previous government, Revanth Reddy said districts and mandals were created without scientific planning and solely for political reasons, leading to administrative imbalances such as wide disparities in population and the number of Assembly constituencies per district. He assured that any boundary revisions would not affect the existence of districts and would be undertaken only after considering public representations, especially from villages or mandals facing difficulties due to distance from district headquarters.
To ensure transparency, the Chief Minister announced the formation of a high-level judicial commission headed by a retired High Court or Supreme Court judge. The commission will tour the state for six months, collect inputs from citizens, officials, and public representatives, and submit a report. The final decision will be taken after a detailed discussion in the Legislative Assembly. Rejecting opposition allegations that districts like Bhupalpally would be merged into old districts, Revanth Reddy said the government’s sole objective is to bring administration closer to the people, adding that full clarity on the issue would emerge during the upcoming Budget session.
