Hyderabad: Telangana Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Thursday made significant announcements regarding the Indiramma housing scheme, stating that 2.10 lakh beneficiaries have been identified so far under the initiative. He informed that the final list of remaining beneficiaries is expected to be ready by June 10.
As part of the pilot project, 42,000 houses have been sanctioned, and construction has commenced on 24,000 of them. “Around 100 houses are now ready for the housewarming process,” the minister said.
Detailing the selection process, Srinivas said, “We asked opposition MLAs to recommend 40% of the beneficiaries, while the remaining 60% will be selected by the Indiramma committees. Former Minister K.T. Rama Rao did not submit any list and instead directed officials to carry out the selection.”
The minister also highlighted other development plans, including the sanctioning of 9,200 houses for Chenchu tribal families under the ITDA. He added that four-storey residential buildings would be constructed in 16 slums across Hyderabad. Similar housing projects will also be undertaken in Warangal, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Mahabubnagar, and Nalgonda districts.

In response to ongoing political developments surrounding MLC K. Kavitha and her reported friction with the BRS, Ponguleti said, “Whether Kavitha will be given a ministerial post or another role if she joins the Congress is not something I’m aware of. I am just a party worker. This entire episode is like a storm in a teacup. Someone seems to be directing her actions. One day she calls someone a demon, another day a god. She says her father is a good person and accuses her brother of plotting against her.”
The minister’s remarks come amid heightened political activity and speculation ahead of key political developments in the state.
