Warangal: A major fire accident reported in Mogilicherla village of Geesukonda mandal, Warangal district, resulted in the complete destruction of maize crops spread across 30 acres. The incident has left farmers in distress as the fully harvested produce was reduced to ashes.
According to sources, local farmers had harvested maize and laid the cobs out to dry along the roadside between Geesukonda and Mogilicherla. On Sunday night, a farmer reportedly set fire to dry maize stalks in his field, which accidentally spread to nearby areas. The flames rapidly engulfed adjoining fields due to dry weather and strong winds, escalating into a large-scale blaze.

Despite efforts by locals to contain the fire, the situation worsened, prompting the deployment of two fire engines from Warangal. However, by the time firefighting teams arrived, the crop over 30 acres had already been destroyed.
Eyewitnesses said farmers attempted to extinguish the fire using water and sand, but their efforts were in vain. The incident has caused significant financial loss to several cultivators, who are now appealing to the government for compensation and relief assistance.
