Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President YS Sharmila has strongly criticised YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for extending condolences to individuals who died by suicide allegedly due to betting addiction. Addressing the media, Sharmila questioned the rationale behind glorifying such incidents. “Why is the YSRCP building statues for victims of betting apps? What message is being sent to society?” she asked.
Sharmila alleged that Jagan is focusing on political optics rather than addressing real public issues. “Instead of fighting for people’s problems, Jagan is engaging in show-of-strength rallies under the guise of condolence visits,” she remarked. She further accused the ruling party of enjoying unchecked privileges, stating, “Jagan is BJP’s adopted son, which is why he gets all permissions without restrictions.”
The APCC chief questioned the state government’s alleged bias in handling political protests. “Why are restrictions imposed only on Congress protests about public issues like Amaravati or the Vizag Steel Plant? We face house arrests, while the YSRCP holds massive rallies without objection,” she said.
Sharmila also raised concerns about law enforcement’s role in recent YSRCP events. “When permission was granted for only 100 people, how did thousands attend the condolence meet? Who is responsible for the two deaths that occurred there? Has Jagan’s financial power reached a point where even the police are silent spectators?” she asked, calling for accountability from both the state government and police department.
