As part of the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in India and took part in a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House. During the summit, the two leaders held extensive discussions on key bilateral and global issues, followed by a joint media briefing.

Prime Minister Modi announced that India will soon introduce e-tourist visa and group tourist visa services for Russian citizens. He stated that the process will begin within 30 days and will be offered free of cost. Modi also revealed that India and Russia have signed the Vision 2030 document to strengthen economic cooperation, a move expected to open new avenues of trade and business between the two nations.

The Prime Minister stressed the need for global unity against terrorism, calling it a direct attack on humanity. Referring to the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and the assault at Crocus City Hall, Modi said both incidents had the same source and reiterated that India and Russia are jointly committed to combating terrorism.

President Putin underscored that Russia will ensure uninterrupted energy supplies to India. He described Russia as a reliable supplier of oil, gas, coal and other natural resources essential for India’s energy development. He also assured that Moscow will continue to support India’s economic growth through steady energy delivery.

Putin noted that bilateral trade between India and Russia is projected to reach 100 billion dollars by 2030. He said defence cooperation will also be expanded further. Discussions with Modi covered priority challenges for Russia. Putin highlighted that efforts to establish a free trade zone between India and the Eurasian Economic Union will continue and pointed out that both countries are increasingly using their national currencies for transactions, with nearly 96 percent of trade already being settled in local currencies.

The Russian President expressed gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Modi and the people of India for their hospitality. His assurance of uninterrupted energy supplies is being viewed as significant especially at a time when US President Donald Trump recently imposed a 50 percent tariff on India for large-scale crude oil purchases from Russia. Putin’s renewed commitment is therefore considered strategically important in the current context.
