United Nations: India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Eldos Matthew Punnose, launched a scathing attack on Pakistan during a UN session on Wednesday. He accused Pakistan of sponsoring terrorism and making false allegations on international platforms, warning that the country posed a serious threat to global peace and security.
Raising concerns over the plight of minorities in Pakistan, Punnose highlighted the continued sexual violence against women, forced conversions, child marriages, trafficking, and harassment of girls. He reminded the global community of the atrocities committed by the Pakistan Army in 1971 in then-East Pakistan (now Bangladesh), where thousands of minority women were subjected to horrific sexual violence—crimes for which no justice has been delivered to date.

Punnose strongly rejected Pakistan’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir, stressing that Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are integral parts of India, and will remain so forever. He condemned Pakistan for using terrorism as a state-sponsored weapon, recalling that Pakistani terror outfits have carried out several deadly attacks in India, including the attack on the Indian Parliament.
Targeting Pakistan’s democratic record, the Indian envoy said that while India’s elections reflect true democracy, Pakistan remains plagued by sham elections, suppression of opposition leaders, and silencing of political voices. He pointed out that the massive voter turnout in the recent Jammu and Kashmir elections was a testament to India’s democracy, adding sarcastically that the development must have come as a shock to Pakistan.
