Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced that India is fully preparing to host the 2036 Olympic Games, underlining the country’s growing capability to organise major international sporting events. Speaking at a national sports programme, the Prime Minister said India has successfully hosted several global tournaments over the past decade, reflecting its readiness to take on the Olympics.
PM Modi highlighted events such as the Hockey World Cup, international chess tournaments, and the FIFA Under-17 World Cup, noting that India had efficiently delivered world-class infrastructure and organisation. He also confirmed that the 2030 Commonwealth Games will be hosted in India, further strengthening the country’s position on the global sporting map.
Drawing a parallel between India’s development journey and the game of volleyball, the Prime Minister said progress and success are the result of collective effort rather than individual achievement. He stressed that, like in volleyball, every individual has a defined role and responsibility in the nation’s growth.
Meanwhile, the National Volleyball Championship will be held in Varanasi from January 4 to 11, with more than 1,000 players from 58 teams across the country set to participate. Organisers said the tournament will help establish Varanasi as a prominent national centre for sports and cultural events.
