Ahmedabad: Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among the passengers onboard the Air India flight that crashed near Ahmedabad shortly after takeoff on Thursday. Initial reports suggest that Rupani sustained injuries in the accident. Several other prominent political leaders were also on the flight. An official confirmation on the number of casualties is awaited.
The aircraft, which departed from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport en route to London, crashed roughly 15 kilometers from the airport, near Meghani Nagar. According to official sources, the plane was carrying over 242 passengers at the time of the crash.

Twelve fire tenders have been deployed to the scene, where thick smoke was seen billowing from the wreckage. Videos of the incident have surfaced on social media, showing the severity of the crash.
