Authorities investigating Monday evening’s car blast in Delhi have confirmed that the main suspect, Dr. Umar Un Nabi, was driving the vehicle involved in the attack, which killed 12 people and injured more than 20. DNA tests conducted on remains recovered from the blast site matched samples from Umar’s mother, confirming his presence in the car. Preliminary findings also indicate that his foot was trapped between the steering wheel and accelerator at the time of the explosion.
Investigations revealed that Umar and his associates had planned multiple attacks across the National Capital Region and other parts of India. Police had conducted nationwide raids prior to the blast, seizing large quantities of explosives and weapons. Officials believe that fearing interception by authorities, Umar carried out the attack earlier than intended. The investigation has also uncovered the purchase of multiple vehicles for the operation, including an I20 and a Ford EcoSport linked to the suspects.
Preliminary analysis shows that the blast involved ammonium nitrate, fuel oil, and detonators, connected to 2,900 kilograms of explosives previously seized in Faridabad. FIRs have been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Explosives Act, and the case has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency. Authorities continue to recover key evidence from locations tied to the suspects, including chemicals and materials collected from a college laboratory, while questioning those involved in facilitating the vehicle purchases for the attack.
