Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, on his birthday, launched the Musi Rejuvenation Walkathon from Sangem in Yadadri District, committing to clean the polluted Musi River despite any opposition. Highlighting the river’s severe pollution, he stated it has become a hazard more dangerous than an atomic bomb and pledged to use bulldozers if necessary to clear obstacles to the beautification project.
The event commenced with special prayers at a Shiva Lingam on the Musi riverbank, and was attended by ministers Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Konda Surekha, Uttam Kumar Reddy, along with a significant number of Congress members. The walkathon spans 2.5 kilometers from Sangem to Bhimalingam.
Reddy criticized the BRS for allegedly prioritizing commissions over public welfare in handling the Musi project. “If Musi remains polluted, my life itself is a curse,” he expressed, noting the river’s transformation from a blessing for Nalgonda to a health and environmental threat. He described how Musi’s contamination has impacted the livelihoods of local shepherds and farmers, causing the collapse of traditional occupations and forcing residents to migrate.

Stating, “Musi now threatens Hyderabad worse than a nuclear bomb,” Reddy questioned the political hesitation to address the river’s devastation. He affirmed that this day was not just his birthday, but his “life’s purpose,” emphasizing his commitment to restoring Musi and protecting residents of Nalgonda and Ranga Reddy Districts. Reddy acknowledged the support from CPI and CPM while accusing the BRS of obstructing the project.
