Hyderabad: Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is scheduled to inaugurate the prestigious Musi River revival works on Monday, a key initiative aimed at strengthening Hyderabad’s water infrastructure. As part of the programme, he will lay the foundation for Phase-2 and Phase-3 of the Godavari Drinking Water Project, which seeks to fill Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs with potable water at an estimated cost of Rs 7,360 crore.
In addition, the CM will inaugurate 15 new reservoirs constructed under the ORR Phase-2 drinking water supply project. The Musi revival initiative is being implemented under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM), with the government contributing 40% of the investment and the contracting firm funding the remaining 60%, with a completion target of two years.
The project involves transferring 20 TMC of water from Mallannasagar reservoir, with 2.5 TMC allocated for the Musi revival to fill Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar, and the remaining 17.5 TMC earmarked for Hyderabad’s daily drinking water needs. Seven intermediary tanks along the route will also be replenished. The government aims to meet Hyderabad’s daily water requirements by December 2027.
The ORR Phase-2 project, already completed at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore, includes 71 reservoirs supplying drinking water to GHMC, municipalities, municipal corporations, and gram panchayats. The 15 reservoirs being inaugurated by the CM will benefit 25 lakh people across 14 mandals, including Serilingampally, Ibrahimpatnam, Ghatkesar, Medchal, Kothapalli, RC Puram, Patancheru, Maheswaram, Shamshabad, Hayathnagar, Keesara, Rajendranagar, Shamirpeta, and Bollaram.
Furthermore, Reddy will lay the foundation for a ₹298-crore project to improve drinking water and sewerage systems in the Kokapet Layout area, covering the Neopolis SEZ, with a two-year completion target.
