Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has highlighted the collapse of the Kaleshwaram project built by the previous government, calling the Sreepada Yellampalli project a lifeline for the state. Addressing the Madigadda barrage, he said the government will act based on the technical committee’s recommendations and announced that the Justice P.C. Ghosh report on Kaleshwaram would be discussed in the Assembly. CM Reddy noted that the NDMA had observed that the Madigadda, Sundilla, and Annaram barrages were constructed similarly but were not optimized for water storage or flood management, warning that retaining water in failed structures could endanger nearby villages. He criticized the non-functional Madigadda project and reiterated that the mistakes of former leaders cannot erase the consequences of their actions.
Telangana is experiencing heavy rainfall, causing severe disruption in districts including Komaram Bheem, Medak, Siddipet, Nizamabad, and Peddapalli. Sudden floods have trapped many residents. In response, CM Revanth Reddy conducted an aerial survey of affected areas. Departing from Begumpet Airport with a ministerial team, he reviewed the Godavari and Yellampalli projects. Ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud, Telangana Chief Secretary, DGP Jitendra, and other officials accompanied him.
At Yellampalli, CM Reddy inquired about flood flow and project conditions, stressing its strategic importance and durability over decades. He compared collapsed and functional projects to underline Yellampalli’s crucial role in managing Godavari waters and provided directives to officials on flood control measures. Following the aerial survey, he proceeded for a district review in Komaram Bheem, but due to adverse weather, the helicopter could not land there, and the review meeting was conducted in Medak instead.
