Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has directed officials to advance the Telangana education system with a comprehensive new policy. In a meeting with the education department, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to collaborate with educationists to develop plans for innovative teaching methods in anganwadis and to enhance school infrastructure.
The new policy aims to introduce playschool-like teaching in anganwadis up to Class 3 and provide semi-residential schooling and transportation for students from Class 4 onwards. Chief Secretary of Education Burra Venkatesham and other officials have been tasked with creating a robust plan to strengthen government schools over the next three years.
Revanth Reddy suggested that semi-residential schools be established alongside the proposed integrated residential schemes. At a meeting attended by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, the Chief Minister proposed that young children receive education in anganwadi centres up to Class 3, modeled after playschools, to keep them comfortable in their villages. He recommended appointing a dedicated teacher for educational instruction in addition to the existing anganwadi staff.
The policy also includes providing transportation for students to semi-residential schools from Class 4 onwards. The government plans to ensure that transportation facilities are available from students’ villages to these schools. The Chief Minister directed the education department to consult academicians when formulating the play-school and semi-residential policies to ensure they effectively strengthen the state’s education system. He suggested starting with a pilot project in one or two mandals based on the academicians’ feedback.
Furthermore, Revanth Reddy urged officials to leverage corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds in addition to government funds to improve school facilities. He stressed the importance of taking all necessary steps to provide better education to students in Telangana.
