Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Monday issued a strong warning to government employees, stating that those who neglect the care of their parents could face salary deductions of 10 to 15 per cent. The announcement came during a programme at Praja Bhavan to launch the Bala Bharosa scheme and Pranam Day Care Centres. The Chief Minister also confirmed that a bill proposing these salary cuts would be introduced during the ongoing Budget session.
In addition to this, Revanth Reddy outlined several welfare measures for vulnerable groups. He said the government is providing financial assistance of ₹2 lakh for marriages involving persons with disabilities, irrespective of whether they marry another differently-abled individual or not. Assistive devices worth ₹50 crore have been distributed, and the administration plans to ensure representation and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities, including athletes excelling in sports.
The Chief Minister further highlighted initiatives for transgender persons, noting that the government is providing jobs and housing under the Indiramma scheme. He encouraged ministers to nominate a transgender individual as a co-option corporator to allow them to directly raise community concerns. Revanth Reddy also stressed elderly care through the Pranam programme and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to universal healthcare access. Criticising the previous administration, he noted the state inherited a debt burden of ₹8 lakh crore, while revenues stand at ₹18,000 crore against a monthly debt servicing requirement of ₹22,000 crore. He concluded by reminding employees about timely salary payments under the current government and announced the Dearness Allowance as a Sankranti gift.
