Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stated that Dattatreya is striving to revive vanishing cultural traditions through the Alai Balai event. He highlighted that Alai Balai served as an inspiration for forming the Political JAC when the Telangana movement faced delays in achieving statehood. Speaking at the Alai Balai program on Sunday, the Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for Dattatreya’s efforts in organizing this politically neutral event during Dussehra for the past 19 years.
Key Role in Telangana Movement
In the united Andhra Pradesh, events were typically held along party lines. However, Alai Balai played a significant role in uniting all sections of society during the Telangana movement, encouraging collective action. For the people of Telangana, Dussehra is a major festival, symbolized by the ‘Palapitta’ (Indian Roller) and ‘Jammichettu’ (Prosopis tree). Similarly, Alai Balai brings to mind Bandaru Dattatreya. Revanth Reddy congratulated Bandaru Vijayalakshmi, who continues the tradition as Dattatreya’s successor, and expressed confidence in her ability to organize the event successfully.
The Chief Minister emphasized that it is the responsibility of the government and the party leaders to preserve Telangana’s traditions by participating in Alai Balai. He also remarked that the event sends a message of unity, as leaders come together to protect and celebrate the state’s rich cultural heritage.
