The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Awareness (HYDRA) authority issued alerts urging residents to remain indoors and avoid venturing into low-lying areas. Several office-goers were stranded in their workplaces, while those who attempted to return home were stuck in long traffic jams, particularly across the IT corridor. Vehicle movement was severely impacted, with traffic coming to a standstill for several kilometres on key routes.
Officials warned that heavy rain is likely to continue until 10 PM. With incessant rainfall over the past few hours, several low-lying localities were inundated, further complicating the situation. Telangana’s independent weather forecaster, Telangana Weatherman, issued a cloudburst alert, forecasting localized rainfall between 8 to 10 cm in certain parts of the city and urging the public not to step out unless necessary.
In the event of a cloudburst, authorities cautioned that overflowing drains and lakes could result in flash floods. Citizens were advised to remain extremely cautious and stay indoors for the next several hours.
Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds were reported in several parts of the city, including Gachibowli, Kondapur, Miyapur, Himayatnagar, Lakdikapul, Nampally, Punjagutta, SR Nagar, Ameerpet, Biodiversity Junction, IKEA Centre, AMB Mall, Inorbit Mall, and Rayadurgam. The resulting waterlogging led to severe traffic jams, with vehicles stranded and commuters facing significant difficulties.
Traffic police personnel have been deployed across key junctions to manage the situation. However, public mobility and civic operations remained heavily disrupted as intense rainfall continued to batter the city.
