Hyderabad: BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Friday launched a sharp critique of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, accusing him of disrespecting the state’s cultural heritage. Addressing the media, Kavitha alleged that the Chief Minister insulted Bathukamma, a festival celebrated by women in Telangana, and demanded Congress leader Sonia Gandhi clarify her stance on the issue.
“Does Sonia Gandhi know that Revanth Reddy has insulted Bathukamma? Or is this happening with her approval? The people of Telangana deserve an explanation,” Kavitha stated.
She also targeted Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, questioning whether she supports Revanth Reddy’s actions. “Priyanka Gandhi represented Kerala in the Lok Sabha and embraced their culture by wearing a Kerala saree in Parliament. But here in Telangana, the CM has demeaned Bathukamma, a symbol of Telangana’s identity. Is this acceptable to you?” she asked.
CM’s Appointment Called ‘Unfortunate’
Terming Revanth Reddy’s elevation as Chief Minister “unfortunate,” Kavitha accused the Congress of failing to act against an MLA who allegedly made derogatory remarks about marginalized communities, despite Telangana Congress chief Mahesh Kumar Goud belonging to the BC community.
“Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi signed the ‘Guarantee Cards,’ promising to respect Telangana’s culture and values, which gained them public trust. However, their inaction against such behavior raises questions,” she said.
Kavitha further criticized Revanth Reddy for lacking an understanding of Telangana’s ethos. “He was never a part of the Telangana movement, and that’s why he fails to connect with its soul,” she remarked. The BRS leader’s comments have intensified the ongoing political discourse in the state ahead of the upcoming elections.
