New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is taking steps to ensure the Asia Cup trophy is delivered directly to India following a dispute involving ACC Chief Mohsin Naqvi. After India’s victory in the final held in Dubai, Naqvi reportedly retained the trophy and refused to present it to the team via Pakistan’s sports minister, prompting the Indian squad to celebrate their win without the trophy in hand.
The PCB chairman reportedly took the trophy and winners’ medals to his hotel room in Dubai, bypassing official presentation protocols. BCCI officials are now coordinating with cricket boards affiliated with the ACC to facilitate the transfer of the trophy from Dubai to the ACC office in Dubai Sports City, from where it will be shipped to India. BCCI has described Naqvi’s unilateral actions as unacceptable and is seeking an amicable resolution.

Separately, the ICC is considering removing Naqvi from his position as ACC Chairperson during the November ICC AGM, with the BCCI expected to lead efforts in this regard. While Naqvi has indicated willingness to hand over the trophy, he has attached conditions that are unlikely to be accepted due to ongoing political and cricketing tensions. India had defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final, with Tilak Varma scoring a crucial 69-run innings. Despite the historic win, the Indian team declined to receive the trophy and medals under Naqvi’s supervision.
