Hyderabad: The Telangana government, led by the Congress party, has announced the distribution of Indiramma sarees to women’s savings groups as part of its Bathukamma festival celebrations. Under the initiative, each member of these groups will receive two sarees free of cost, a move aimed at empowering women and supporting local artisans.
The sarees are being produced by weavers in Sirisilla, with around 6,000 workers employed for the initiative. So far, approximately 30 lakh sarees have been manufactured, with production ongoing to ensure the remaining 30 lakh are ready for the festival. Authorities have emphasized that these sarees are of higher quality compared to previous years, with each saree valued at around Rs 800.
This scheme is part of the broader “Indira Mahila Shakti” program and reflects the government’s efforts to provide employment opportunities while promoting traditional craftsmanship. The sarees will be distributed to members of women’s savings groups across Telangana during the Bathukamma celebrations.
