Hyderabad: The Telangana government has officially renamed two major irrigation projects in the state. The Water Resources Department issued an order regarding the name changes today.
The Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project, located at Kariven near Bhutpur Mandal in Mahabubnagar district, will now be known as the S. Jaipal Reddy PRLI Project, in honor of the late Union Minister, S. Jaipal Reddy. The project, which aims to lift 70 TMC of floodwater from the Krishna River at the Jurala Project, provides irrigation to 7 lakh acres in Mahabubnagar, 2.7 lakh acres in Rangareddy, and 0.3 lakh acres in Nalgonda districts.

Additionally, the Singur Project has been renamed the Silarapu Rajanarsimha Project. The decision honors the late Congress leader and father of Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha. Located near Singur village on the Manjira River, the Singur Project, constructed in 1988 with a capacity of 29 TMC, primarily serves as a source of drinking water for Hyderabad and also generates hydroelectric power.
