New Delhi: The Supreme Court expressed strong disapproval of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s remarks regarding the bail granted to BRS MLC K. Kavitha in the Delhi Liquor Scam Case. The court stated that such comments were inappropriate for someone holding a high constitutional position, as they could erode public confidence in the judiciary.
Chief Minister Revanth had earlier implied that Kavitha’s bail was a result of an agreement between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). He alleged BRS worked for BJP’s victory in the recently held Lok Sabha elections. These comments were brought to the attention of the Supreme Court by Kavitha’s legal team during a hearing on petitions filed by BRS leaders seeking to transfer the ‘Cash-for-Vote’ case to Madhya Pradesh.
Justice B.R. Gavai, responding to the remarks, expressed concern that statements of this nature, made by a person in such a responsible position, could lead the public to question the impartiality of the judiciary. He emphasized that judges are committed to performing their duties with integrity, free from political influence.
Following the Supreme Court’s remarks, Revanth Reddy took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to clarify his position. He stated that his comments had been misrepresented by certain media outlets and reaffirmed his respect for the judiciary, noting that he had no intention of criticizing the Supreme Court’s decisions.
