Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia made a bold statement, accusing governors in non-NDA-ruled states of obstructing the functioning of the governments. He claimed that such a position is a burden on democracy and suggested that it would be better to abolish the role altogether. Sisodia made these remarks during an interview with a national media outlet. He stated, “Bureaucrats in Delhi are facing difficulties due to the ongoing disputes between elected leaders and the Governor. This is becoming harmful to democracy. Why do states even need a Governor? Is it just to administer oaths to elected leaders? This task can be done by others as well. It would be better to abolish the Governor’s position.”

Meanwhile, it is known that Manish Sisodia was recently released from Tihar Jail after being arrested in the Delhi liquor case. The Supreme Court granted him bail, allowing him to walk free after nearly 17 months. It was in this context that he made his critical comments regarding the role of the Governor.
