The Supreme Court reprimanded the Justice Narasimha Reddy Commission, appointed by the Congress government in Telangana, regarding its handling of inquiries into power purchases and construction of power plants. The Court criticized the Commission for prematurely reaching decisions before completing its investigation. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, leading the bench, made these observations during the proceedings.

Former Telangana Chief Minister and BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao has escalated the matter to the Supreme Court, seeking to annul the findings of the Justice Narasimha Reddy Commission. Initially filed in the High Court, Rao’s petition was dismissed, prompting his appeal to the apex court.

During Tuesday’s hearing, a bench comprising Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra, under Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, heard arguments from Mukul Rohatgi representing KCR, and Siddharth Luthra and Gopal Shankar Narayanan representing the Telangana government. The bench expressed displeasure over Justice Narasimha Reddy’s conduct, particularly criticizing his decision to hold a press conference, deemed inappropriate under the rules. Advocate Siddharth Luthra informed the Court that the government would announce the new commission chairman later in the day.
