HYDERABAD: The Election Commission has extended the deadline for voter registration in Telangana’s graduates’ constituencies for the Legislative Council (MLC) elections, after technical problems disrupted the online application process. Under the revised arrangement, eligible graduates can register until the last date for filing nominations.
State Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy announced the decision in a statement, saying the extension applies to the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda and Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad graduates’ constituencies. The commission acted on appeals from political parties and graduates after the online portal malfunctioned for several days because of server problems. The original deadline for applications was November 6.
Officials clarified that the schedule for revising the electoral rolls has not changed. The draft voter list will be published on November 25 as previously announced, and objections and complaints will be accepted from November 25 to December 10.
The final voter list is scheduled for publication on December 30. Because of the extension, graduates will be able to apply not only during the objections period but also after the final list is released, up to the last date for filing nominations.
