Former BRS MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy Passes Away

Peddi Sudarshan Reddy, former MLA of Narsampet and a close associate of BRS party ranks, passed away at at 12.51 a.m. on Friday. As previously reported, he had experienced chest pain on the morning of the 26th of this month in Hanumakonda and was rushed to the local Rohini Hospital. Doctors there diagnosed him with cardiac arrest. After an hour-long effort involving nine rounds of CPR, some improvement was observed, following which he was shifted to Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad for advanced treatment. Despite receiving the best available medical care, he passed away while undergoing treatment at 12:50 am on Thursday night, as announced by doctors at Yashoda Hospital, Secunderabad.

As soon as news of his heart attack broke, BRS Working President KTR, former minister Harish Rao, along with several MLAs, former MPs, and other leaders rushed to Hanumakonda. He had shown some response after receiving treatment at the hospital there, following which he was moved to Yashoda Hospital in Hyderabad for further advanced care. BRS leaders kept regularly inquiring about his health condition. During his hospital stay, BRS chief KCR himself visited the hospital and consoled the family members.

For the past five days, doctors had kept him on ventilator support, but there was no improvement. Doctors confirmed that due to prolonged unconsciousness, he showed no neurological response. ECG, brain MRI, and TCD tests revealed that his brain had suffered damage due to oxygen deprivation. After five days of treatment, he breathed his last on Thursday night.

As news of his death spread, a wave of grief engulfed the combined Warangal district as well as the Narsampet constituency. Leaders, followers, and supporters are arriving in large numbers at the hospital and his residence. Several senior party leaders and public representatives expressed deep condolences, stating that Sudarshan Reddy’s sudden demise is an irreparable loss to the BRS party and the Narsampet constituency.

Personal Life

Peddi Sudarshan Reddy held a distinct identity as a leader of the Telangana movement and a people’s leader. He was born on August 6, 1974, in Nallabelli village, Nallabelli mandal, Warangal Rural district, to Rajireddy and Amruthamma. He completed his intermediate education in 1991 from Mahbubia Panjatan College in Warangal. Active in addressing public issues from a young age, he began his political journey as the Nallabelli mandal Youth President.

Political Career

In the early stages of his political career, Sudarshan Reddy served as the Duggondi mandal Block Congress President. When KCR founded the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in 2001, he joined the movement. He won as ZPTC from Nallabelli mandal on the farmer’s plough symbol and served as ZPP Floor Leader. He later served as district party convener in 2004 and as state party secretary from late 2005.

He played a key role in leading the TRS party and the Telangana movement in the erstwhile Warangal district as district president for nearly eight years. He served as a member of the party’s Political Bureau from 2006 to 2014 and became extremely close to party chief KCR’s family during this period. He gained state-level recognition for his active role in organizing major public meetings held in Warangal during the Telangana movement, including the historic “Maha Garjana” rally.

Following the achievement of statehood, he contested from the Narsampet assembly constituency in the 2014 general elections but lost by a narrow margin to the nearest candidate. Nevertheless, he continued to work closely with the people of the constituency and was subsequently appointed Chairman of the Telangana Civil Supplies Corporation, where he left an effective administrative mark.

First Term as MLA

He went on to contest from Narsampet as the BRS candidate in the 2018 early elections and secured a resounding victory with a massive majority of 16,949 votes. During his tenure as MLA, he also served as a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in 2018. He focused particularly on the development of his constituency and the progress of irrigation projects. He contested again in the 2023 assembly elections but faced defeat.

Sudarshan Reddy is survived by his wife Swapna, son Nidharshan Reddy, and daughter Dharmishtha Reddy. The people of Narsampet and BRS cadres are deeply grieving the loss of a people-oriented leader who worked tirelessly for the strengthening of the party and public welfare since the days of the movement. Several key leaders are arriving to console the family members and pay their last respects to his mortal remains.

Funeral to Be Held Today at 3 PM

Sudarshan Reddy’s mortal remains will be taken to Narsampet this morning. They will then be kept for some time near the Amaraveerula Stupam (Martyrs’ Memorial) in Hanumakonda for people to pay their respects, before being taken to Narsampet. The remains will subsequently be moved to his native village of Nallabelli. Party sources have announced that the funeral will be held in Nallabelli today at 3 pm. BRS chief KCR, Working President KTR, former minister Harish Rao, and BRS leaders and workers from across the state are expected to participate in large numbers in his final procession. Meanwhile, BRS cadres remain deeply immersed in grief over Sudarshan Reddy’s demise.
