Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) President Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Congress government, alleging that it was facilitating the transfer of government lands worth nearly ₹1 lakh crore to influential groups while neglecting the interests of the poor.
Addressing a press conference at the party office in Banjara Hills, Kavitha claimed that the TRS would soon present documentary evidence related to the alleged land transactions. She accused the government of encouraging large-scale land encroachments and misuse of public resources.
The TRS chief alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and several Congress leaders were allowing Telangana’s resources to be exploited. She asserted that growing public dissatisfaction with the government’s functioning could have serious political consequences for the Congress in the state.
Kavitha alleged that while previous governments had faced allegations of corruption and land irregularities, the current administration had taken such practices to a new level. She also accused the government of attempting to allot additional land to private entities, despite earlier opposition to similar proposals.
Questioning the functioning of HYDRAA, Kavitha alleged that the agency was selectively targeting structures belonging to economically weaker sections while ignoring alleged violations by major real estate developers. She specifically referred to a high-rise project near the Musi River and demanded action if any irregularities were found.
Presenting satellite images during the briefing, Kavitha alleged that several acres of lakebed land in Premavathi Peta had been encroached upon for commercial development. She also raised concerns about alleged land encroachments near Medibavi and Jalubavi lakes in Nagaram Municipality, claiming that local resolutions seeking action had not been acted upon.
The TRS president also made allegations regarding land purchased by Pawan Kalyan in Hyderabad. Citing irrigation records, she claimed that the land falls within a lakebed area and called for a detailed government inquiry into the matter. She said any encroached land should be reclaimed in accordance with the law.
Responding to recent remarks made by Pawan Kalyan on Telangana-related issues, Kavitha said the state belongs to its people and highlighted the sacrifices made during the Telangana movement. She accused the Jana Sena leader of engaging in diversionary politics instead of focusing on issues affecting Andhra Pradesh.
Kavitha also criticized comments made by Pawan Kalyan regarding his past support to late revolutionary balladeer Gaddar, stating that charitable acts should not be publicized years later. She further questioned whether adequate recognition and support had been extended to folk artists whose work contributed to the film industry.
On irrigation issues, Kavitha accused the state government of failing to adequately safeguard Telangana’s interests in inter-state river water matters. She alleged that key irrigation projects had not received sufficient attention and criticized the government’s handling of water-sharing concerns with neighboring states.
Announcing future political activities, Kavitha said the TRS would launch a series of issue-based padayatras across Telangana. She stated that the first march would focus on the Lakshmidevipalli Barrage in the Palamuru-Rangareddy region and reiterated the party’s commitment to protecting public lands and addressing issues affecting Telangana residents.
She also demanded the allocation of certain government lands to Telangana movement activists and announced plans for a large-scale protest in Uppal Bhagayat next month to press the demand.
