A historic nuclear agreement has been reached between the United States and Saudi Arabia. However, Iran has made sensational remarks regarding this deal. Iran has openly predicted that Israel will not tolerate this agreement and will find a way to block it by any means necessary. Iran stated that Israel simply cannot digest the idea of any other nation in West Asia rising to become a nuclear power. Iran also asserted that Israel would not hesitate to take even the most extreme decisions to derail this deal.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil responded to these developments. He made clear that nuclear power should not be monopolized by a select few nations, and that every country has a fundamental right to use it peacefully for civilian purposes. At the same time, he stated that Iran has no reason to fear the threats being made by the United States, and warned that Iran would take all necessary measures to protect its national sovereignty and defend itself.
Esmaeil made it clear that Iran would not leave the decision of whether peace or war prevails in the region in America’s hands. He gave sharp responses to media questions regarding the recent temporary peace agreement between the US and Iran, as well as the renewed tensions centered around the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. He stated that national interests remain paramount for Iran, and that on such critical matters, the government makes decisions strictly according to established principles.
The United States has come forward to supply uranium to Saudi Arabia for civilian purposes, and to grant that country the capability to enrich uranium on its own. To this end, President Donald Trump has approved a massive agreement with Riyadh, set to remain in effect for a full 30 years. Although US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has made clear that this deal would not lead to any nuclear proliferation, Israel remains deeply dissatisfied with it.
Representatives of Iran’s Supreme Leader stated that the United States must bear full responsibility for the military aggression carried out against Iran. They also expressed suspicions that certain Gulf regional nations may have had a role in these attacks. Iran made clear that uniting to resist America’s dominance and overreach is the only path forward.
