Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu announced that India will establish 100 new airports and 200 helipads over the next decade as part of the Centre’s efforts to strengthen aviation infrastructure and improve regional connectivity across the country. The minister also revealed plans to introduce UDAN Yatri Cafes at airports nationwide to enhance passenger convenience and provide affordable services to travelers.
During his first visit to Ranchi after assuming office, Ram Mohan Naidu launched several passenger-centric initiatives at Ranchi Airport. Addressing the media, he said the Centre would soon roll out UDAN-2 with an investment of Rs. 29 crore under the revised Regional Connectivity Scheme of the Civil Aviation Ministry. The initiative is aimed at improving air connectivity to underserved and remote regions.
The Union Minister also inaugurated a Yatri UDAN Cafe and a “Flybrary” at Ranchi Airport. The Flybrary is a special library facility designed for passengers waiting for flights, allowing travelers to borrow books at one airport and return them at another airport. Officials said the initiative is intended to create a more engaging and comfortable travel experience for passengers.
Amid growing tensions in West Asia, Ram Mohan Naidu stated that people should remain prepared to face any developments arising from the ongoing geopolitical crisis. He noted that the government is closely monitoring the situation and taking necessary measures to minimize its impact on India’s aviation and transport sectors.
To support the aviation industry, the minister said the Centre has reduced Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices along with airport landing and parking charges. According to him, these measures are aimed at easing operational costs for airlines and ensuring that air travel remains affordable and accessible for passengers across the country.
