The Election Commission of India has reportedly approved the proposed name for Kalvakuntla Kavitha’s new political party, marking a key development in her entry into a new political phase. According to sources, the name “Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS)” has been cleared for registration, paving the way for the formal launch of the party.
Kavitha had earlier announced the formation of her new political outfit during a public meeting in Medchal on the 25th of this month. Initially, she declared the party name as “Telangana Rashtra Sena,” which later underwent changes during the approval process, eventually being revised to “Telangana Rakshana Sena.”
The proposed use of the abbreviation “TRS” had sparked debate, as it was previously associated with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), which was earlier known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi. Reports suggested that the BRS could raise objections over potential confusion related to the name and abbreviation. Concerns were also expressed over other entities having registered similar abbreviations, raising the possibility of disputes.
Despite these issues, the Election Commission has reportedly given its approval to the revised name, removing a major hurdle in the formation of Kavitha’s party. However, the shift from “Telangana Rashtra Sena” to “Telangana Rakshana Sena” has not been officially explained, leaving room for speculation over the strategic reasons behind the change.
