In a significant political development in Telangana, MLC and Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Saturday announced the launch of her new political party, “Telangana Rashtra Sena” (TRS), at a public meeting held near the Medchal Outer Ring Road, with the declaration drawing enthusiastic responses from supporters who raised “CM, CM” slogans at the venue.

The choice of the name TRS has gained particular attention, as it was earlier associated with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) before it was renamed ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections as part of K. Chandrashekar Rao’s national political ambitions, making Kavitha’s move politically significant and sparking fresh debate across the state.

Addressing the gathering, Kavitha said she had played a key role in the Telangana movement and highlighted the contribution of Telangana Jagruthi in strengthening the cultural foundation of the agitation through initiatives like Bathukamma, while expressing dissatisfaction that many aspirations of the movement remain unfulfilled and alleging that the state had witnessed restrictions on personal freedoms.

She launched sharp criticism against the BRS leadership and KCR, stating that the party had lost the spirit of Telangana and alleging failures in governance, irrigation and public welfare, while also accusing major political parties of being driven by corruption, nepotism and injustice; she asserted that her party would emerge as the main opposition force and expressed confidence of coming to power within two years.

Outlining her policy agenda, Kavitha announced five key focus areas including free education for all students including those in private institutions, universal access to free healthcare, strengthening agriculture with a farmer-centric approach, large-scale employment generation through loans ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹20 crore and four lakh jobs via a single notification along with additional opportunities for activists, and ensuring social justice with 50% reservations for BCs and equitable opportunities for SCs, STs and minority communities.
