Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commended U.S. President Donald Trump for his steadfast efforts to implement a historic peace plan in Gaza. The leaders held a phone conversation during which they also reviewed progress in India-U.S. trade negotiations. Modi stated on X that both countries agreed to continue strengthening their close bilateral ties in the future.
President Trump had earlier announced that Israel and Hamas had reached an agreement to end hostilities in Gaza, a move welcomed by Prime Minister Modi. He also praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his strong leadership in facilitating the ceasefire.
Modi expressed optimism that the release of detainees and cessation of violence would allow humanitarian aid to reach Gaza, fostering conditions for lasting peace. He described the agreement as a significant step toward regional stability and enhanced cooperation.
Spoke to my friend, President Trump and congratulated him on the success of the historic Gaza peace plan. Also reviewed the good progress achieved in trade negotiations. Agreed to stay in close touch over the coming weeks. @POTUS @realDonaldTrump
