Rajasthan: On Monday, the government will release ₹3,200 crore under the Crop Insurance Scheme (Fasal Bima Yojana) directly into the bank accounts of nearly 30 lakh farmers across India. The funds will be distributed in a ceremony in Junjunu, Rajasthan, where Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will oversee the disbursal. Among the beneficiaries, farmers from Madhya Pradesh will receive the highest amount of Rs 1,156 crore, followed by Rajasthan with Rs 1,121 crore and Chhattisgarh with ₹150 crore. Other states will share Rs 773 crore.
Launched in 2016, the Crop Insurance Scheme aims to provide financial support to farmers affected by natural calamities such as untimely rainfall, drought, floods, storms, and pest attacks. Under the scheme, farmers pay a nominal premium—2% for Kharif crops, 1.5% for Rabi crops, and 5% for commercial crops—with the remaining premium cost shared equally by the central and state governments. The scheme also covers post-harvest losses such as damage during crop drying. Loss assessments are conducted by officials, and claims are settled within 15 days. Authorities have urged farmers, including those in Telugu states, to avail themselves of the scheme before the August 15 deadline for Kharif crop insurance.
