BJP MP Anurag Thakur has filed a breach of privilege notice against Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. He submitted the notice on Thursday, alleging that Gandhi made serious allegations against Union Home Minister Amit Shah in violation of parliamentary rules and norms.
Thakur submitted the notice under Rules 222 and 223 of the Lok Sabha rules, requesting the Speaker to admit the matter and refer it to the Privileges Committee under Rule 227 for a detailed inquiry. This development stems from remarks made by Rahul Gandhi during the July 29 Lok Sabha discussion on the NEET paper leak issue and police action against protesting students in Delhi.
Anurag Thakur alleged that Rahul Gandhi violated Rule 353 by making unsubstantiated and serious allegations against Union Home Minister Amit Shah without giving him adequate advance notice. This rule requires that before making unsubstantiated allegations, sufficient advance notice must be given to the concerned individual or the Speaker, so that they have an opportunity to respond. He stated that Rahul violated the rules by making serious remarks against Amit Shah without any evidence or advance notice.
Thakur also said that Rahul violated Rule 352 by using unparliamentary words such as “idiot” and “andh bhakt” (blind devotee) in the House while describing a conversation with a student. He criticized Gandhi for using abusive language that went against parliamentary conventions. He further alleged that Gandhi wasted the House’s time with irrelevant remarks and unnecessary speeches unrelated to the topic under discussion.
In his notice, Anurag Thakur demanded that Rahul Gandhi’s conduct, which he said violated House decorum, be examined and appropriate action be taken through the Privileges Committee.
