Rishabh Pant Nears Historic Test Record with 425 Runs in England Series

Two centuries, two half-centuries, and scores like 25 and 9 — that’s been Rishabh Pant’s performance in the ongoing Test series against England. Since the first Test, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter has been in stellar form and currently stands as the second-highest run-getter of the series with 425 runs. With two more Tests to go, including the fourth starting July 23 in Manchester, Pant is well on track to break records.

He is just 101 runs away from becoming the highest run-scorer by an Indian wicketkeeper in a single Test series — a 61-year-old record held by Budhi Kunderan, who scored 525 runs in the 1964 five-match series against England. Kunderan remains the only Indian wicketkeeper to have scored over 500 runs in a single series.

If Pant surpasses that mark, he will set a new benchmark in Indian cricket. To become the highest-scoring wicketkeeper overall in a Test series, however, Pant would need to overtake South Africa’s Denis Lindsay, who holds the global record with 606 runs. Given Pant’s current form and his confirmed participation in the remaining Tests, the milestone seems well within reach.
