Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has announced a significant increase in bus pass charges, with the revised fares coming into effect from today. The move is expected to impact daily commuters, particularly employees and students who depend heavily on public transport for their travel needs.
Under the revised structure, the monthly fare for an Ordinary Bus Pass has been increased from Rs 1,150 to Rs 1,400 — a hike of nearly 22%. The Metro Express Pass now costs Rs 1,600, up from ₹1,300, while the Metro Deluxe Pass has been raised from Rs 1,450 to Rs 1,800. Additionally, charges for Green Metro AC Passes used within the Greater Hyderabad region have also been revised upwards.

The fare hike is expected to add an extra monthly financial burden of Rs 250 to Rs 400 for regular bus pass users, particularly salaried employees. For students, who largely depend on low-cost public transport to reach educational institutions, the increased pass rates are likely to cause added financial strain.
The decision has drawn criticism from commuters across the state, especially from middle- and lower-income groups, who have expressed dissatisfaction over the sudden escalation in charges.
