In Telangana, there are numerous castes within the BC (Backward Classes) community. However, six of these castes are set to change their names in the near future. Over the past few years, members of these communities have expressed dissatisfaction, alleging that their caste names are being misused in cinema and politics in a derogatory manner. They have been demanding that their caste names be changed.
This issue has finally reached the attention of the Telangana Backward Classes (BC) Commission. As a result, the commission has agreed to change the names of these communities. Among the communities requesting name changes, the first is the ‘Dommar’ community. They have been persistently asking for a change in their caste name.

The second community is ‘Pitchigunta.’ Members of this community are also requesting a name change. The third is the ‘Tammali’ community, who have caste certificates stating their classification as ‘Non-Brahmin’ and ‘Shudra.’ However, they claim that these names have subjected them to discrimination and, therefore, are demanding a name change.
The fourth community, ‘Budabukkala,’ is also seeking a name change. The proposed alternatives for ‘Budabukkala’ include ‘Kshatriya,’ ‘Shiva Kshatriya,’ and ‘Ram Joshi.’ It is expected that one of these names will be selected. The fifth community, ‘Arya Kshatriya,’ is likewise requesting a name change.
The sixth community is the ‘Veeramushthi’ community. They have suggested changing their caste name to ‘Veerabhadriya.’ Members of this community, particularly students and professionals, have expressed difficulty in proudly sharing their caste name and are thus seeking this change.
In total, the names of these six communities will be changed soon. However, BC Commission Chairman G. Niranjan stated that the name changes will be implemented only after ensuring that there are no objections or disagreements.
