Hyderabad: The Telangana government has launched a major security overhaul at the state Secretariat after a recent incident involving fake employees created a stir. The Revanth Reddy-led administration is taking the matter seriously and has initiated a comprehensive review of security protocols, particularly around the Chief Minister’s entry and exit points.
An internal assessment by the General Administration Department (GAD) revealed the absence of CCTV surveillance at the CM’s designated access routes. This has led to sharp criticism of the Special Protection Force (SPF), which is responsible for Secretariat security.
Currently, 246 CCTV cameras are operational within the Secretariat premises. Authorities are now planning to install an additional 30 cameras, with a focus on high-security zones, including the sixth floor where the Chief Minister’s office is located.
Additional checks are being enforced at the South-East gate, which serves as the primary access point for the public, and at internal entry locations. The SPF has also deployed a two-tier security ring throughout the Secretariat.
The move comes after several individuals were found entering the Secretariat with fake ID cards, impersonating government staff. While security personnel apprehended them, the frequency of such incidents has raised concerns about potential security breaches.
In response, the Chief Minister has directed officials to take strict preventive measures and ensure that unauthorized individuals cannot access government offices. The government aims to restore full confidence in Secretariat security through the upcoming upgrades and reforms.
