New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 79th anniversary of India’s independence, unveiled a new development roadmap titled “Saptadhara,” outlining seven key sectors he described as the engines of the country’s journey toward becoming self-reliant and a global leader.
In his Independence Day address, the Prime Minister identified manufacturing, agriculture, technology, Gati Shakti (infrastructure connectivity), defense, green energy, and soft power as the seven pillars essential to realizing the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” — a developed India.
Manufacturing and Agriculture at the Core
PM Modi described manufacturing as the primary foundation of the nation’s economic progress, stressing the need for domestic production spanning everything from small components to heavy equipment. He said Indian products must compete on the global stage without compromising on quality, affordability, or packaging standards.
On agriculture, the Prime Minister called for elevating the sector to international standards, urging that fruits, vegetables, oilseeds, and traditional grains cultivated by Indian farmers be marketed more extensively abroad and developed into globally recognized brands.
Technology and Infrastructure Push
Highlighting India’s achievements in digital innovation, PM Modi pointed to the success of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) as proof of the country’s technological capability. He set out an ambition for India to emerge as a global hub for robotics and data centers in the years ahead, alongside the rollout of indigenously developed 6G networks nationwide.
He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to accelerating the construction of roads and expressways under the Gati Shakti initiative, aimed at facilitating smoother business operations and transportation across the country.
Defense Self-Reliance and Green Energy
Turning to national security, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of self-reliance in defense manufacturing, calling for the armed forces’ equipment needs to be met through domestic production. He underscored the need for greater investment in drone and counter-drone technologies, describing them as increasingly critical to modern defense capabilities.
On the environment, PM Modi called for continued innovation in green energy as part of the country’s broader push for sustainability.
Soft Power as a Global Draw
Concluding his address, the Prime Minister expressed confidence in India’s soft power — citing yoga, cinema, animation, digital content, and national parks as key assets capable of attracting large numbers of foreign tourists and enhancing India’s global cultural footprint.
