The Telangana government is expected to deliver good news soon for farmers who have not yet received loan waivers. Due to technical issues and other delays, the pending loan waivers will be cleared. So far, loans of up to ₹2 lakh have been waived in three phases, and the agriculture department has now prepared a list of 5 lakh eligible farmers. Once the government approves, a total of ₹5,000 crore will be credited to the farmers’ accounts.
The government also plans to extend loan waivers to farmers without ration cards. Officials have completed the verification process at the village level to identify these families. It has been confirmed that over 4 lakh farmers across the state who do not possess ration cards have yet to receive loan waivers. Additionally, errors in Aadhaar details and bank passbooks have been rectified for more than 1.2 lakh farmers statewide.
The Revanth Reddy-led Telangana government initiated the loan waiver scheme on July 18, waiving loans of ₹1 lakh for 11.34 lakh farmers, with ₹6,000 crore disbursed. On July 30, loans between ₹1 lakh and ₹1.5 lakh were waived for 6.4 lakh farmers, with ₹6,090 crore credited to their accounts. In the third phase, conducted on August 17, loans between ₹1.5 lakh and ₹2 lakh were waived.
Meanwhile, farmers held a protest in Gandhari Mandal, Ellareddy constituency, under the leadership of an all-party delegation. They demanded the immediate waiver of loans for all eligible farmers, in line with the Congress government’s promises. Protesters accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of misleading farmers and raised slogans against the government.
