In a significant political development, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has faced another setback with the resignation of Rajya Sabha member R. Krishnaiah. The resignation was formally accepted by the Rajya Sabha Chairman, leaving one seat from Andhra Pradesh vacant. As a result, YSRCP’s strength in the Rajya Sabha has now reduced to eight members.

At the time of the Assembly elections, the party had 11 members in the Rajya Sabha. However, recent resignations by Beeda Mastan Rao and Mopidevi Venkataramana brought the party’s strength down to nine. With R. Krishnaiah’s exit, the count has now dropped to eight.

R. Krishnaiah stated that his resignation was aimed at strengthening the Backward Classes (BC) movement. However, there are ongoing speculations that he may soon align with either the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) or the Telugu Desam Party (TDP).
