YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has penned a letter to the Assembly Speaker Ayyannapatrudu, expressing concerns over the protocol during oath-taking and the status of the opposition. YS Jagan criticized the decision to have him take oath after ministers, stating it goes against the House’s traditions and hints at predetermined denial of opposition leader status.
He pointed out that according to parliamentary norms, the party with the most seats in opposition should automatically be recognized as the opposition. YS Jagan highlighted that there is no legal requirement for a minimum percentage of seats for opposition status, contrary to recent practices.
Accusing the Speaker of bias, YS Jagan cited alleged remarks captured on video suggesting hostility towards him. He lamented the lack of a conducive environment in the assembly to voice public concerns effectively without opposition status.
YS Jagan emphasized that only with recognized opposition status can the party effectively participate in legislative proceedings, urging the Speaker to reconsider the matter in light of these concerns outlined in his letter.
