The critical Vijayawada–Kazipet railway route, linking Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, has achieved significant progress on its third line project. Spanning 219 kilometers, this prestigious project under the priority of Indian Railways has already completed track construction and electrification over 199 kilometers. The remaining minor works are being executed on a war-footing basis, and the route is expected to be fully operational soon, bringing transformative improvements to the region’s rail network.
The new third line is set to resolve long-standing traffic congestion on this busy corridor. Passenger trains will now run punctually without delays, and goods trains, especially those transporting coal and cement, will benefit from increased speed. Full electrification will reduce fuel costs for the railways and help curb pollution, offering environmental benefits alongside operational efficiency.
Beyond improving rail operations, the project is poised to become an economic bridge between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Industrial corridors and agricultural markets along the route are likely to expand, while better connectivity from rural areas to cities will create improved employment and business opportunities. Enhanced transportation in remote villages is expected to strengthen local economies and support regional development.
Completion of this third line and electrification marks a major milestone in South Central Railway’s history and the broader development of the Telugu states. Once fully operational, the route will efficiently handle both passenger and freight traffic, boosting trade, connectivity, and overall economic growth across the region.
