The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has taken a major step by repealing a law that provided legal protection to Madarsa teachers and staff against police action. The legislation, introduced in 2016 during the Samajwadi Party government under Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, required special permissions before law enforcement could investigate allegations of financial irregularities or other crimes involving Madarsa personnel.
The Yogi government has justified the repeal on the principle that no one is above the law, emphasizing that the previous law allowed certain individuals to operate with impunity. With the repeal in effect, police can now directly investigate and take action against Madarsa staff if complaints or evidence of wrongdoing emerge.

Officials stated that the move aims to enhance transparency and accountability within the Madarsa education system. By enabling law enforcement to act without procedural hurdles, the government hopes to curb irregularities and ensure that educational institutions operate within legal and ethical standards.
The decision is part of the Yogi administration’s broader initiative to enforce strict compliance and accountability across all educational and institutional settings in Uttar Pradesh.
