Tensions between the United States and Iran have intensified once again, with developments reported around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.  U.S. President Donald Trump has warned of a possible blockade of the waterway, further escalating concerns over maritime security in the region. In response, the U.S. Navy has reportedly begun intercepting vessels moving toward Iranian ports.

According to reports, the U.S. naval operations around the region have been significantly strengthened, with additional forces deployed to enforce maritime restrictions. The blockade is said to have come into effect from 7:30 p.m. (IST) on Monday. However, the U.S. Central Command clarified that commercial vessels heading toward non-Iranian ports will not face any disruption.

In a strong statement, Trump claimed that 158 Iranian vessels have already been destroyed. He also noted that Iran’s fast attack boats were not initially targeted, as they were not considered an immediate threat. However, he warned that any such vessels approaching the blockade zone would be destroyed if they challenge U.S. naval operations.

Further escalating his remarks, Trump said the United States has achieved a 98.2% reduction in drug trafficking via maritime routes into the country. Drawing a comparison, he warned that Iran’s naval assets would face similar strict action if they interfere with U.S. enforcement measures in the region.
